What kind of sites do you actually take on?

We work on fields, paddocks, smallholdings, school grounds, churchyards and larger estates. The site needs reasonable access and ground we can plant or work on. If it is too steep, too wet or too far from a track, we will say so at the first visit.

How long does a woodland creation scheme take from start to finish?

A small scheme might be planted in a week, but a proper woodland takes years to establish. We usually spend a season planning, plant the following winter, then come back for a few years of weeding, checking and beating up where losses have happened.

Do you handle the paperwork and any grant applications?

We can advise on what grants and consents are likely to apply and point you towards the right scheme. We do not submit applications on your behalf, but we will give you the site details and plans you need so your own adviser or the funding body can take it forward.

What happens if trees die after planting?

Some losses are normal in the first two seasons, especially in a dry spring. We build a beat-up allowance into the plan, so replacements for failures in the first couple of years are part of the job rather than a new quote.

Can you work alongside our existing woodland or hedgerows?

Yes, and it is usually the better approach. We plant to connect with what is already there, keep existing hedges and mature trees, and avoid disturbing ground that is already working as habitat.

Do you travel outside your usual area?

We work across the county and into neighbouring ones, but distance matters for aftercare. If a site is a long drive away, we will tell you honestly whether we can maintain the visits the scheme needs.

Site visit and survey

We walk the ground, check soil, drainage, access and light, and look at how the site sits with the surrounding hedges and woodland.

Ground preparation

We clear what needs clearing, mark out rows and spacing, and get the ground ready in the season before planting so the trees go into good conditions.

Handover and review

Once the wood is established we walk it with you, agree any further thinning or management, and leave you with a record of what was planted.
